以古典手法诠释的战争爱情片，由迈克尔．道格拉斯与梅拉尼．格里菲思主演。剧情从战前纽约的一家律师事务所展开，担任秘书的琳达爱上精明干练的老板爱德华，极力争取表现。与此同时，她也渴望能解救身陷纳粹德国的亲人。珍珠港事变发生，美国卷入二次世界大战，爱德华穿上军装，才揭露了他原来是美国战略情报处上校的真正身份，琳达因此加入了情报单位，协助爱德华侦乍得国发展原子弹的高度机密，两人因而身陷柏林，展开了九死一生的间谍生涯。大卫．谢泽的导演技巧中规中矩，但男女主角的明星魅力加上畅销小说式的剧情，还是维持了相当的娱乐性。
