「科學"和「宗教"的對立始乎從未平息。本片改編自真人真事。一名鄉下老師在1925年遭警方拘捕，因為他違反了當時的法律禁令，在課堂上公開講授達爾文的「進化論"。此事在平靜的南方小鎮此起轟動，兩位頂尖的律師各據一方代表正反兩面互相抗辯，等於人類直接向上帝的權威挑戰。此事件曾被改編為舞台劇，又於1960年拍成電影。

請奇幻愛好者聯合抵制譯林出版社的Tolkien相關作品！
最近看了幾頁譯林翻譯出版的Tolkien的《精靈寶鑽: 魔戒起源》，簡直出離憤怒！
中國南京譯林出版社出版的《霍比特人》、《魔戒》、《精靈寶鑽: 魔戒起源》錯誤之多令人咋舌，而且該社對與民間Tolkien愛好者無私提供的建議多採用矇混的辦法，態度令人憤怒！
譯林出版社雖然是中國一家知名出版社，但是在對待Tolkien教授的作品上極為不負責任。
首先是對書籍內容的損傷。在2002年出的的《魔戒》的簡體中文第一版第一次印刷中，刪除了地圖，並對《附錄》中做了多處刪減，給讀者的理解造成障礙。在2004年出版的《精靈寶鑽》的簡體中文第一版第一次印刷中再次刪除了所有地圖、家族樹等資料。
譯林選用的美工、譯者和校對人員明顯不合格，缺乏對作者和原作應有的尊重。其表現如下：
一，封面設計荒誕。《精靈寶鑽》簡體中文譯本的精裝本和簡裝本採用的都是與書籍內容幾乎無關的圖案（請參見右圖）；
二，翻譯者缺乏勝任該行業的基本素質，屢屢出現字面理解錯誤，和大量漏譯；
三，翻譯者對Tolkien教授營造的Arda世界缺乏基本了解，導致很多概念錯誤；
四，翻譯者間缺乏合作，校對者沒盡到責任。在翻譯《魔戒》採用「多人合譯」的方法，讓三個人分別翻譯三卷書，名詞得不到統一，同一頁中同一個名詞竟然會出現不同的翻譯方法，相似的名詞往往被搞錯，校對人員形同虛設。
這四點的後果是讓許多第一次接觸Tolkien教授著作的讀者無法正確理解小說內容，並大大減弱了他們對書籍的興趣。有位愛好者曾經給《魔戒再現》,《王者無敵》做過勘誤表，兩卷書中翻譯錯誤至少也有800餘處！而《精靈寶鑽》更加離譜，僅僅是書後的index就可以找出179處硬傷！（全部不是由於文化和語言差異造成的！） 《精靈寶鑽》簡體中文譯本中的譯者——該譯者翻譯的《霍比特人》同樣糟糕——擅自遺漏、添加、歪曲原作的現象令所有對故事有一定了解的讀者震驚，將一部悲壯的神話變成一個顛倒黑白的惡搞故事。對於一切熱愛Tolkie教授的作品的愛好者來說，譯林出版的書中的世界才是個真正的「Arda Marred」，叫人傷心失望。
希望熱愛Tolkien作品的人聯合抵制這個版本。一個認真負責的版本才是讀者樂見，以後也可以拿來細細品味的書。

Ecthelion和Gothmog打的「血肉橫飛」……這是哪裡出來的！還有「very square of the King」和「Gothmog」又翻譯到哪裡去了？？？
同一個英雄Lord Ecthilion，在另一個故事裡被翻譯莫名其妙翻譯成「家丁」，原書INDEX里說他是：
Echtelion - Elf-lord of Gondolin, who in the sack of the city slew and was slain by Gothmog Lord of Balrogs.
明明就是說Ec和Gothmog互相殺死了對方，譯林居然翻譯成：
Ecthelion 埃克塞林 岡多林的精靈王，城市陷落後，他曾大肆殺戮，最後被火魔巴爾洛格所殺。
「大肆殺戮」啞不知道哪裡來的。同樣的lord，剛才是「家丁」現在就是「王」，Gondolin除了Turgon沒有有其他精靈王？？
再看這句Finrod的話 「我起誓，並將付諸實施，否則天誅地滅。我不會娶妻生子，繼承王位。」
原文：...and he said: 'An oath I too shall swear, and must be free to fulfil it, and go into darkness. Nor shall anything of my realm enre that a son should inherit.'
哪裡來的「天誅地滅」。
「第二天Turin從邊境回來千洞之殿……」

其實意思是：
如果一個人迫害自己的家庭，他所能繼承的家產將會是一貧如洗的。
因為這個這段舊約里都講述的是：
He who seeks good finds goodwill,
一個人往好的方向走，就會獲得好的回報
but evil comes to him who searches for it.
但邪惡是會出現在尋找它的人面前的。

不知道你明不明白， 其實英文尤其是舊約或詩歌類的，他們都是一種比喻，還要理解到聖經所推廣的道理，正義真理。就能明白了。 不要咬文嚼字，原本的舊約翻譯都是比較文言的。應該意譯就明白很多了！
